Led by Department of Theater and Dance Chair Brandon Whited, Santa Barbara Dance Theater's new work, FORUM, explores connection and creative research while providing invaluable professional experience for student apprentices.

Santa Barbara Dance Theater (SBDT), the professional dance company in residence at the Department of Theater and Dance, is premiering FORUM, a new evening-length work. Under the artistic direction of Professor and Department Chair Brandon Whited, the piece is a product of deep collaboration. "A ‘forum’ is a site of discourse, a place to share ideas," says Whited. A key feature of SBDT is its apprenticeship program, which allows eight UCSB student dancers to gain hands-on professional experience performing alongside company members, bridging the gap between academic study and a professional career in the arts.
