Professor Irwin Appel and the Department of Theater and Dance's acclaimed Naked Shakes program mark two decades of stripped-down Shakespeare with an anniversary production of "The Tempest."

For 20 years, Naked Shakes has captivated audiences with its "stripped-down" approach to Shakespeare, focusing on the raw power of language and performance. To celebrate this anniversary, the Department of Theater and Dance program, led by Artistic Director and Professor Irwin Appel, is staging "The Tempest." This production embodies the program's innovative spirit, using outdoor campus spaces to explore themes of forgiveness and what endures. "After 20 years, I feel as if we are just getting started," Appel says. "The strength and beauty of Naked Shakes is that we are always reinventing and reimagining.”
