On April 27, 2005, the UCSB AAU Task Force conducted a day-long conference designed to explore new paradigms and initiatives for humanities research, teaching, and funding at UCSB. Faculty and graduate students were invited to participate in this national dialogue, which was co-sponsored by the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS).
The conference consisted of three panel sessions. UCSB faculty participants were joined by external guest panelists, David Theo Goldberg, Director of the UC Humanities Research Institute and Professor of African American Studies and Criminology, Law and Society at UC-Irvine; and Glenna Avila, Director of the Community Arts Partnership and the Santa Clarita Valley Arts Partnership, and a faculty member at the California Institute of the Arts.

Professors Anna Everett and Alan Liu
